Tadashi Fashion & Art Scholarship
In 2002, the Tadashi Fashion & Art Scholarship was founded to provide financial assistance to art students who demonstrate exceptional potential and commitment to become established artists in their chosen fields. Applicants of any age may apply but support is given to those who are not yet established in their fields and who are undertaking programs of study which will advance their artistic development and who are pursuing career paths that can lead them to become established artists.
HistoryTadashi Shoji of Japan always had a passion for the arts. As a student he studied as an apprentice to the renowned avant-garde artist, Jiro Takamatsu. In the ‘70’s Tadashi immigrated to Los Angeles, California where he found work under Hollywood costume designer, Bill Whitten. It was here that he was inspired to create his own eveningwear. Today his evening wear is fashioned by celebrities but appeals to women of all ages, interests and sizes.
Tadashi Shoji, who is the Official Designer for the Miss Universe and Miss USA beauty pageants, has opened his flagship signature boutique at South Coast Plaza in March 2004. For over 20 years, Tadashi has developed a devoted following of customers worldwide for luxury eveningwear, better dresses and special occasion separates season after season. His fashion line continues to prosper with upscale retailers such as Neiman Marcus, Saks Fifth Avenue, Nordstrom, Bloomingdales and specialty retailers worldwide.
For his success, the Asian Business League recognized Tadashi Shoji at its 2002 Annual Awards Banquet as Entrepreneur of the Year. Tadashi took this opportunity to forge a lasting relationship with ABL by creating a sponsorship that would enable him to give financial assistance to a student that shares his passion for the arts.
